Cagney Blogathon

The Movie Projector is hosting a James Cagney Blogathon April 8-12, 2013. For thirty years one of the biggest stars in American film, Cagney was also an Oscar winner for best actor, president of the Screen Actors Guild for two years, and recipient of the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. Twenty-five bloggers, many of them members of the Classic Movie Blog Association, will be writing about Cagney and the movies he made. Fabulous Films of the 1940s Blogathon

CMBA Blogathon: Films of the Fabulous 1940s

The 1940s.

Full of feel good comedies, eye opening war movies and post war film noir angst.

From February 17-22, the Classic Movie Blog Association (CMBA) is going to be recognizing the Films of the Fabulous 1940s with a blogathon.

The blogathon is for CMBA members only, so be sure to add CMBA Blogathon in your post title, include a link to the post schedule on our blog site, and add the banner to your blog.

 Since there are so many films during the 1940s that should be recognized, we are asking for no repeat reviews.

E-mail classic.movie.blog.assoc@gmail.com  by February 8 to let us know which film you will be reviewing. Please use "CMBA 1940s Film Blogathon" for your e-mail title.

John Garfield Blogathon

In honor of the March 4th 100^th birthday of the incredibly talented John Garfield, They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To will host a blogathon.

Anyone may participate. Whether you want to write about one of John Garfield's films, his stage career, his "method" acting, his Hollywood blacklisting, or any other facet of his too-short life, you are invited to join in the 100th birthday celebration.

The blogathon will take place that entire weekend---Friday to Monday, March 1st through March 4th. More details will be forthcoming, as will directions for posting your article(s) to the blogathon.  For now, though, just let Patti know if you intend to be part of the fun and what aspect of Mr. Garfield's career or life you'd like to write about.  You can leave a comment on this post or email Patti at pattiamg27@gmail.com.

The Best Hitchcock Films Hitchcock Never Made Blogathon

How many times have you watched a movie that was clearly saluting the man known as “The Master of Suspense”? Filmmakers from Brian DePalma to D.J. Caruso and so many more have aimed for a Hitchcockian feel in their thrillers—and some of them actually did an amazingly good job of bowing to The Master! So this summer, from July 7th through July 12th, Tales of the Easily Distracted and ClassicBecky’s Brain Food are celebrating filmmakers who love Hitchcock. The idea is to not review Alfred's own films, but those that have a Hitchcockian feeling and Hitchcockian elements in them.  For example, North by Northwest shares a lot of themes with The Prize (1963), Psycho surely inspired DePalma's Dressed to Kill (1980) not to mention more than a couple more. A film doesn't have to be based on or inspired by any particular AH film, either: Charade (1963) and Arabesque (1966) certainly have the freewheeling terror that a great Hitchcock film does.  For more information, click here.
